Traveling South Africa solo with Voetspore! Desember 2024 3 weeks and 4500km later... A loop around South Africa with only me, my camera and the little Voetspore Jimny ended up being one of the best ideas I have ever had! With the jimny I was able to go fully off grid without any hassle and I was able to manage everything by myself. When driving on hot days it was always nice to stop and get a cold drink from the fridge before driving further. It made everyones day when they saw this little car pull up and set up camp in the middle of all the big cars and tents. I met some of the most amazing people that will for sure be life long friends and new traveling partners. The map on the bonnet was the real eye catcher and drew so much attention that I would regularly come back after a swim or hike to find the kindest people standing around it, chatting and telling the most amazing traveling stories and sometimes even planning their own trips off the bonnet. I definitely reached placed I would have never been able to see without a 4x4. I am always on the search for an adventure and this vechile made everything I imagened possible. We rented a Suzuki Jimny for a Month and could not have been happier with the service that Voetspore provided. We did 3 Country’s and 4000 kilometres all without a problem. Any queries we had were quickly answered and resolved. The car was well kitted out, built for purpose and meant no where was off limits - often cursing past bigger 4x4’s when they were struggling with the terrain. Rented the 5 door Jimny for a 12 day trip overlanding trip to Zimbabwe including gonarezhou national park, was a bit sceptical at first to rent from this company as I had never really heard of them before, not from South Africa so didn’t know anything about the Voetspore TV show till I considered this rental company. Decided last minute to go on an overlanding trip and previously used Britz 4x4 and was going to use them again but they had no vehicles available and the other major safari rental companies had no vehicles I wanted available for the last minute trip. I contacted Voetspore a few days before trip and they had vehicle available. Communication during the booking process was great considering I needed the vehicle in a few days time and also was in a different country to SA. Handover of the car was very good and staff handing the car over were friendly and took time explaining things and answering questions, same on returning the car they seamed to take on board my experiences and feedback. I enjoyed the 12 day trip in the jimny it was a comfortable overlanding trip for 1, although on South Africa highway it felt a little underpowered when trying to keep up with traffic on 120km roads, however, the jimny was very good with all the rough roads and I felt no need for extra power. It was also fairly good on fuel, better than I expected. The jimny also did the Fishans river crossing in Gonarezhou fine with no problems. The only problem I had was with the electric cooker which wasn’t practical for my needs as the second battery would get drained quickly and on more than one morning I woke up with the second battery flat and had to charge up again via long drives, in the future would also ask them for a gas cooker besides the electric single plate cooker which I am sure they will take on board. Voetspore appear more customer focused and offer a more personalised service with little extras included as compared to other safari rentals I have used before. Overall it was an enjoyable trip and I definitely wouldn’t hesitate using Voetspore rentals again in the future and would also definitely consider the 5 door jimny again. It’s true that the jimny attracts so much attention and at the campsite’s I went to, fellow campers often wanted to talk about the jimny or take photos as it’s a quirky little car from the map on the bonnet to its size.
